Couple months ago, I found promo pictures of the new Orly Mash Up Summer 2013 collection. I was overly keen to get my hands on the colours. A mash up of neons, pastel, glitters and shimmers; how could one go wrong, right? I picked up four of the six in the set.
Orly describes the collection as:
Take risks. Rock opposites. Start a riot with envy-inciting style. Now’s the time to blur the line between energetic and outrageous–with Mash-Up, the new Summer 2013 color collection from ORLY. Turn up the heat to the extreme, with hyper-brights and high-attitude hues that work the weird and wonderful with wild abandon.
The four colours I chose were:
Orly Mash Up Summer 2013 Collection
Mayhem Mentality is an electrifying orange neon polish that is as vivid as it looks like in the photographs above. The first coat applied quite smoothly with a few patches but this was corrected and covered with a thick second coat . I added a top coat to complete the look creating a glossy neon finish.
N.B I used Nails Inc Kensington Caviar base coat under Mayhem Mentality which is a natural toned base coat and despite that, the polish was still very much vibrant and eye-catching. I believe using a white coloured base coat will make the colour ‘pop’ even more.
Sparkling Garbage is an aquamarine green with a jelly base filled with lots of tiny holographic glitters. Despite being very sheer, the formula worked very well for me as I added 4 thin coats to achieve an opaque finish and the self levelling formula helped to create even coats of polish per nail.
Pretty-Ugly is a stunning muted blue shade with ever so subtle blue iridescent shimmers gleaming through it. Looking at the colour in the bottle, I thought it may be too pale for my hands but after three thin coats, the colour pay off was really impressive and in person the tiny shimmers were visible on my nails making the colour even more gorgeous. The first coat was slightly patchy but by the third coat, all was right with the world again.
Choreographed Chaos is a bubble gum pink packed with really tiny iridescent purple shimmers. Again this colour also looked more of a turn-off in the bottle but however once applied to my nails, I fell in love. It is such a pretty pink and the shimmers add a nice touch to the shade. Application was a bit tricky with this colour. The first couple coats were patchy with visible brush strokes but after a third thick coat, the polish leveled off nicely to leave behind an even, block of solid colour.
